Disruption: Term used to describe an adoption planning process between birthmother and adoptive individual or family that is ended without the adoption taking place. Usually a result of a birthmother’s decision to parent. However, can also involve the choice of a different family. It could, conceivably, result from an adoptive family changing their mind, but I have never heard of that happening.
Take 1: Shorthand for our first match with a birthmother, Sara, in late October, 2007. Sara was not due until late January, and we had a long and fairly intense period of getting to know one another. In early January Sara decided that we were not a good fit for her as a family, and chose a different family with the same agency.
